The Ultimate Nashville Thanksgiving Break Bucket List for Families

0

Thanksgiving break is the perfect time to soak up all the cozy, festive fun Nashville has to offer. Whether you’re staying local or visiting for the week, here are some of our favorite ways to make memories as a family this season.

Wander Through Zoolumination at the Nashville Zoo

Zoolumination isn’t just a light show — it’s an experience. With over a thousand custom-made silk lanterns, this glowing wonderland feels straight out of a storybook. The installation changes each year, so even returning visitors will find something new to love.

In addition to the lanterns, families can stroll through the North Pole Village which features festive light tunnels and Santa himself. Don’t miss the Smashville Ice Rink, presented by the Nashville Predators, where you can skate under lantern-lit skies for a magical end to the night.

This event is perfect for all ages and is a dazzling tradition that keeps families coming back year after year.

Tickets: Get Zoolumination tickets here. Prices average around $25, with youth discounts available and children under 2 free.

Experience “So. Much. Christmas.” at Opryland

No one does the holidays quite like Gaylord Opryland Resort, and their A Country Christmas celebration is pure magic. The entire resort — decked out with more than 5 million dazzling lights — transforms into a one-of-a-kind Christmas wonderland filled with dazzling displays, delicious treats, and endless festive fun.

The star of the show is ICE!, featuring 2 million pounds of hand-carved ice sculptures that bring scenes from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” to life. From Snoopy and Charlie Brown to the Peanuts gang decorating their tiny tree, every detail is carved from colorful ice blocks kept at a frosty 9°F —parkas are provided for each guest, adding another layer of fun!

Beyond ICE!, the resort is packed with experiences for every age including ice skating, gingerbread house building, snow tubing, a holiday cirque show and much much more. If you want to do it all, I would recommend purchasing the bundle to save 30%. Purchase tickets here.

Whether you’re staying overnight or visiting for the day, Opryland is the ultimate holiday destination to make lasting memories together.

Catch a Concert or a Preds Game

It wouldn’t be Nashville without live music — and Thanksgiving week brings plenty of it! See your favorite artist at one of Nashville’s many music venues, from the legendary Ryman Auditorium to the iconic Grand Ole Opry, which is celebrating its 100-year anniversary with can’t-miss shows all year long. You can also check out major touring acts at Bridgestone Arena for big-name performances the whole family will love.

If your crew is more into sports, grab tickets to a Nashville Predators home game and cheer on the team at Bridgestone. It’s high-energy fun that even non-hockey fans get into!

Hit the Trails at Percy Priest or Burgess Falls

If your crew needs a nature break, pack a picnic and head outdoors. Percy Priest Lake offers easy walking trails and peaceful lake views close to town, while Burgess Falls makes for a fun day trip with stunning waterfalls and family photo ops. Both are perfect for soaking in crisp fall air before holiday feasts begin.

Take in the Holiday Lights at Cheekwood

Cheekwood’s Holiday LIGHTS display turns the gardens into a glowing wonderland. Walk the mile-long trail, roast s’mores by the fire, and sip hot cocoa as you explore the twinkling paths and festive décor. It’s a calm, beautiful way to wind down after a busy day.

Brunch like a pro

Skip the ordinary dinner spots and try one of Nashville’s most unique dining experiences. Brunch at White Limozeen — Dolly Parton’s dreamy pink rooftop restaurant — is as fun as it is delicious. Or cozy up inside a greenhouse at Green Hills Bar & Grille, where each table feels like your own private garden hideaway.

From glowing lanterns and ice skating to live music and cozy brunch spots, Nashville is full of Thanksgiving-week adventures. Whether you’re watching the city light up for the holidays or finding peace on a lakeside trail, it’s the perfect place to make family memories that sparkle all season long.

Ashlee Lowry
In 2023 my family traded in our flip flops for cowgirl boots and made the move from the Alabama Gulf Coast to Nashville with my husband, (Ben), two girls (Collins and Quinn), our big fluffball (Lionald) and our humble turtle (Shelly). I went from an in-office setting literally on the beach, to a work-from home setting in the music city and could not be happier with the change. We love to shake things up, experience new things and enjoy new perspectives. I am an extreme optimist, a daydreamer, a full time Marketing professional, a part-time writer, and a “whenever I can” adventurer! I like to think of myself as a free spirit, but realistically motherhood most often times binds me to a solid plan and scheduled days. I drink way too much caffeine and am a certified drink goblin (One for caffeine, one for hydration and one just for fun!) Being a mom most oftentimes demands behaviors such as going out in public and being social, but my favorite place in the world is on my couch. As a marketing professional I love telling stories. I enjoy sharing adventures, tips, tricks and my favorite mom-approved places to visit, experience, and see! I cannot wait to share my perspectives and opinions with this community and I look forward to connecting with other Nashville moms in our new home.
