In our household we have summer babies which means summer birthday parties—and if you’re anything like me, you want something fun, memorable, and easy to pull off. Whether you’re planning for little kids, tweens, or teens, here are some of the best birthday party ideas for spring and summer that go beyond the typical cake-and-presents routine. These are parties I’ve either hosted or been to in Nashville that left their mark on myself and the kids.
Backyard Bash: Inflatable Water Slide Party
This is my go-to party for my kids, both having summer birthdays. Renting an inflatable water slide instantly turns your backyard into a mini water park, and its super easy. I just tell them when to be there and they set it up and break it down. Most places will even let you keep it an extra day or for the weekend for a small upcharge so the fun can continue all weekend!
I normally order some pizzas, setup some camp chairs in the backyard, and it’s a low effort but max fun party. It’s perfect for younger kids and still a hit with older ones who just want to run around and cool off.
We normally go with a 16ft or 18ft double lane water slide from Jumping Hearts Party Rentals and it’s always a hit.
Pontoon Boat Party on the Water
For a next-level birthday experience, rent a pontoon boat from Four Corners Marina.
For the girly girls, the Pink Pearl Double Decker Pontoon Boat is a dream—it seats up to 15 people and features a double-decker with a slide. It’s basically a floating party with built-in entertainment. Pack snacks, bring a playlist, and let the kids swim and slide the day away. They offer half day ($524.05) and full day ($714.05) rentals.
This is a great option for older kids or teens who want something a little more “cool” and less traditional. We did this for my daughter when she hit the big 1-3 milestone and it is still talked about!
They also have an onsite gift shop that surprised me! They had adorable boutique style offerings and the girls had a fun time shopping before-hand while waiting on the guests to arrive- another added perk!
Beat the Heat at a Trampoline Park
When it’s too hot outside, take the party indoors to Sky Zone Trampoline Park.
Kids can jump, dodge, flip, and burn off all that birthday energy in a safe, air-conditioned space. All packages include a party room, at least 60 minutes of jump time, skysocks, pizza and drinks for 10 people. Packages start at $350 for 10 jumpers. They take care of all of the setup and clean-up so you can focus on your guests. This is another party that’s great for all ages.
Rockstar for a Day: Music Party
If your child loves music, a party at Bach to Rock is such a fun option. They have multiple music-themed party themes like DJ birthday party where kids ages 10+ work with real turntables and perform custom DJ mixes. There’s also Rock Birthday Party for ages 7+ that gives kids a chance to perform in a real rock band, and we can’t forget about the littles- they have the Rock City Birthday party for them!
We loved the karaoke party—kids took turns picking songs and getting up on stage to perform. It’s interactive, high-energy, and gives every kid a moment to shine. Plus, it feels unique compared to the usual party setups.
Glam Day: Dress-Up + Tea Party
For the ultimate girly experience, Chic Petite is pure magic.
Girls get to dress up, get manis and pedis, have their hair and makeup done, enjoy a tea party, and finish with a fashion show and dance party. They offer a variety of themes and packages, so you can tailor it to your child’s personality. It truly feels like a special occasion from start to finish. This is perfect for kids ages 4-8. Packages start at $330 for a 2 hour party.
Take Me Out to the Ball Game
A birthday party at a Nashville Sounds game is such a fun and easy group option.
Here’s what’s typically included:
- Corner section ticket for each guest
- Reserved party space at the Pepsi Pavilion
- Pizza or hot dogs, drinks, and Dippin’ Dots
- One cupcake per child
- One free round of mini golf
- A mini bat for the birthday kid
- A “Happy Birthday” message on the scoreboard
Starting around $48 per child, it’s a full experience with built-in entertainment—and zero hosting stress. We all loved it!
Teen Favorite: Shopping Party + Lunch
For older kids and teens, keep it simple and fun with a shopping party at The Mall at Green Hills.
Start with lunch, then let them browse their favorite stores, pick out some gifts for their birthday, and finish with Starbucks or a dessert. It feels grown-up and gives them independence while still celebrating together. We did this for my pre-teen’s birthday party. It worked out beautifully because her friends brought gift cards for the birthday girl as gifts so she got to have a fun shopping spree. I’ve also been to another version of this party where the parents gifted the friends each a budget to spend while shopping.
Of all the parties we’ve been to or hosted, the best parties were the ones the kids planned. I learned a long time ago to let go and work their vision and because of that, we’ve had some truly memorable birthdays. Some of my favorite themes for parties where kids took the lead were a “Snake and eggs” party, a “Batman/mermaid” party, and I think the one this summer may rank up there- what is it? “a yes day” (pray for me).
