Today, we are shining a spotlight on Franklin, TN.
Just a short drive South of Nashville, to know Franklin is to love it. For me, one of the things I love most about Franklin is how much it reminds me of the town I’m from, Fairhope, AL. Fairhope is a small bay town in Alabama known for its charm, walkable downtown, and locally owned shops, and Franklin has that same welcoming feel. Both places have a way of making you want to slow down, stroll a little longer, and pop into just one more shop. Between historic streets, incredible local food, family-friendly events, and a few hidden gems we’ve come to love, it’s one of those places we find ourselves visiting again and again. Whether you’re planning a girls’ day, family outing, or weekend escape, Franklin offers something for everyone.
One of the first places I recommend visiting is Downtown Franklin Historic District. The Main Street area truly feels like something out of a storybook. It’s lined with adorable boutiques, cozy cafés, and delicious restaurants, all set among beautifully preserved historic buildings. It’s the perfect place to stroll, pop into shops, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon exploring.
When we’re downtown, one of our favorite stops is Triple Crown Bakery. During the winter months their hot chocolate is a must, and in the spring their pastry case fills with seasonal treats that are perfect for enjoying before a walk through town.
Spring is one of the best times to explore the Franklin area. Some of my favorite spring events are the Tulip Festival at Lucky Ladd Farms, Main Street Festival held each April, the Franklin Farmers Market every Saturday in the springtime, the Makers Market, and the Kite Festival put on by the Franklin Recreation Center.
Another place we love spending time is The Factory at Franklin. This restored factory space has become a hub for shopping, food, and activities. One of our favorite things to do there is paint-your-own pottery at Third Coast Clay, which is a fun activity for both kids and adults. When it’s time to eat, we recommend the po’ boys at White Alligator. It’s a great casual Cajun themed lunch spot. Being from the Mobile, AL area it really feels like home. For a girls’ lunch, Saffire Restaurant is another favorite with a beautiful atmosphere and great food.
Franklin also has some great spots for an evening out or a little relaxation. My husband loves catching live music at Kimbro’s Pickin’ Parlor, a legendary local venue known for its cozy atmosphere and incredible musicians.
In the Meridian area, one of our favorite Italian spots is Little Hats Italian Market. If you visit, we highly recommend the Spicy Italian sandwich, the Brussels sprouts pizza, or the bolognese. They also have these super fun “spinny things” I like to call them in a cute courtyard out front. We always end up having way too much fun with those!
When it’s time to slow down and relax, Woodhouse Spa feels like a little escape. The relaxation room alone makes the experience special, and it’s the perfect place to unwind for a few hours. Nashville Mom Tip: If you aren’t offered mimosas, ASK! They offer endless mimosas before or after your service in their relation room.
For family outings, we often head to the CoolSprings area. We’ve made plenty of trips to Barnes & Noble to browse books and relax for a bit, and the kids love burning off energy at Sky Zone Trampoline Park. Occasionally the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck even makes a stop at the mall, which always turns into a fun surprise outing.
One of our favorite recent experiences in the Franklin area was a weekend stay at Southall Farm & Inn. With its beautiful farm setting, incredible food, and peaceful atmosphere, it feels like a getaway even though it’s just a short drive from Nashville.
