Give a resident a Second Chance, Give to Dismas! The mission of Dismas House is to improve lives and strengthen communities by providing the formerly incarcerated with holistic reentry programming that breaks the cycle of incarceration. When returning citizens enter society successfully, we all benefit from a stronger, safer community.
Current needs: compact umbrellas; cell phones (smartphones, new or gently used), backpacks, water bottles, new or gently used work pants or jeans, basic set of tools for household repairs, ground coffee, laptops (new or gently used), gas grill, copy paper and art supplies.
We welcome donations of new or gently-used women’s career wear and wardrobe accessories. Donated clothing should be in current styles, not more than 5-years old, unaltered, freshly cleaned, and brought in on hangers. We’re unable to accept clothing in bags or boxes.
Donations accepted at YWCA’s administrative office – 1608 Woodmont Blvd. – by appointment only via link listed below. We have resumed limited office hours and we’re pleased to offer a regular donation drop-off schedule on one or two afternoons each month – by appointment only. We are currently accepting these items:
- Career Wear: suits and separates, dress shoes, purses, belts, jewelry, and scrubs. In order to meet the demand for business-casual attire, and to accommodate industry-specific attire needs, we need donations of khaki slacks, black pants or black jeans, white shirts (with collars), shoes with non-skid soles (pristine tennis shoes), low-heeled or flat black shoes. Donations of career wear in large sizes are especially helpful. Please donate according to this seasonal calendar:

Limit of 25 hanging items per donation, please. Bring us your best 25 items! All clothing must be brought in on hangers. We are unable to accept bags or boxes of clothing.

Call the Arc Pick Up Service to donate your gently used clothes, tools, dishes, books, games, bikes, skateboards, and garden gnomes to the Arc of Davidson County. Your items will be sold to local thrift stores for resale. The proceeds are used to support the Arc’s services for people with developmental disabilities and their families. You can also visit their online scheduling page here. Having a yard sale at your church, school, or other organization? Don’t forget to call the Arc to arrange for pick-up of your unsold items. They will be happy to arrange a pick up after your sale ends.
This shop has the mission of providing a source of affordable goods for local residents, a steady income for the Child Development Program at St. Luke’s Community House, and an opportunity for volunteer work. Needs include: clean usable clothing of all types for men, women, and children. (Please make sure there are no rips, tears, etc.) Check the website for other accepted items!
