With only one week left before the school bell rings, I am taking advantage of the final week of summer vacation and filling it with a few family adventures. We’re making the rounds to some of our favorite kid-friendly spots one final time as we say so long to summer. Maybe we’ll see you there!
One last visit to a kid-friendly museum.
My son’s favorite local museum is the Musicians Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville. While the exhibits may skew slightly older (6+ years), my son had a ball learning about all of the instruments and recording equipment that go into making a record. His absolute favorite part was testing his skills on drums, keys, bass and even vocals! He even got to sing back-up on stage for Ray Charles! This is hands down one of our favorite hidden gems in Nashville.

One last day at the splash park.
While we love our neighborhood pool, it’s no match for Nashville’s amazing splash parks! The park we are heading to this week is the action-packed Brentwood Splash Park. The water slides rival those of big-time water parks, plus they have water soakers, fountains, and a huge dump bucket. I love that it’s affordable too, only $5 for county residents and $9 for non-county residents.

One last ice cream date.
If my son could eat ice cream every day, he would, and I’m guessing that’s true for your kids too. We are making room in our schedule – and our bellies – and heading outside Nashville city limits to Nash Family Creamery. Located in the town of Chapel Hill, this place has over 20 different flavors of ice cream all made from their dairy cows that live on-site! Be sure to try their special summer flavors before they’re gone!

One last late-night sleep over.
I know it’s important to start getting back into a normal bedtime routine, but I’m treating my son to one last late night sleep over complete with junk food and giggles. If your kid (or kids) aren’t ready for sleepovers with friends, consider yourself their sleepover buddy, or bring on the cousins or grandparents!
Buy a new alarm clock.
Let’s be honest. The hardest part of any new school year is getting the kids up in the morning. This year, make it something they can look forward to and let them shop for a new alarm clock of their choosing. Head to the mall, or Walmart or Target, and let your kiddo choose the alarm clock of their dreams (or whatever is in your budget). My son still loves his Super Mario alarm clock we bought last year with, literally, all the bells and whistles and he still gets excited to use it!
Here’s to another school year full of learning, and probably some obstacles along the way. But don’t worry mama. You got this!
