An Afternoon At Breeden’s Orchard

Just outside of Nashville, down a tree-lined country road in the heart of Mount Juliet, TN, sits a beloved family-run orchard. You would probably never just “stumble upon” this orchard since it sits among a quiet neighborhood, high up on a hill, hidden from the hustle and bustle of highway noise and tourist traffic. In short, you gotta know where it is and I will be the first to admit, I had no idea Breeden’s Orchard even existed until a few months ago (and I’ve been a Nashville resident for over 15 years – oh! the shame)!

I’m happy to say all of that changed this past Saturday, when I took my family on a visit to this beautiful corner of Middle Tennessee and got to experience the orchard for myself.

Breeden’s Orchard has been operating since 1974 growing peaches and apples, welcoming visitors, and baking up fried pies that have become local legend. They’ve since expanded their operation to include much, MUCH more, but I was happy to see that these things are still at the heart of the orchard.

They’ve extended their fruit groves offering U-pick peaches throughout July and August and apple picking September through mid-October.

Breeden’s opened a new on-site bakery a few years ago, enhancing their menu offerings to include donuts, monster cinnamon roles, fresh-baked breads, and, of course, their legendary hand-made fried pies.

Breeden’s is ready to welcome visitors with an amazing line up of family-friendly events all year long. My son loved the Baby Animals & Berry Treats when he could get up close to pigs, chickens and playful goats. He especially loved the delicious berry treats Breeden’s had on hand (strawberry cinnamon roll for the win)! He had a blast in the activity yard, which was full of fun barnyard activities, slides and games! We missed the bee-keeping demonstration, but got the chance to visit the hives and watch those busy bees in action.

We enjoyed live music while we ate our fresh, made-to-order pizza and sipped on delicious seasonal hard cider from their cidery. Their Strawberry Lemonade Cider was my favorite! My son enjoyed their sparkling apple juice made fresh from their orchard-grown apples.

The best part about Breeden’s Orchard is the size. I never once felt overwhelmed by crowds, activities, or the amount of ground we had to cover to explore the different areas of the orchard. It was refreshingly manageable for everyone in my family. We all left with full bellies, smiles on our faces and the intention to return very soon to get some juicy peaches!

I am originally from the Philadelphia area, but have called Nashville home for over 15 years. I met my husband, Eric, shortly after moving here and we got married in 2012. I built my career in the tourism industry before becoming a stay-at-home mom to my son, David, in 2021. I live in College Grove and love the peace that this rural community offers while still being close to Nashville. I am an avid reader and a big fan of local libraries. I also have a passion for the performing arts and am involved in a local dance company and serve on my church's worship team. I enjoy traveling, a really good bar of chocolate, matcha lattes, shopping, cooking and finding the perfect pair of jeans.
