As the weather cools off, the drinks heat up. What better way to chase those shivers away than with a rich, steaming cup of hot chocolate? Of course, you can always DIY your own homemade cup of cocoa, but I much prefer to indulge my inner chocoholic this time of year and treat myself to a gourmet hot chocolate from some of my favorite local bakeries and cafes.
We’ve done the hard work of taste testing this winter-time treat and are bringing our favorite recs to you! This list includes the best spots around Nashville (in our humble opinion) for you to experience the most delicious (and sometimes over the top) hot chocolate.

Triple Crown Bakery
This well-known bakery located in downtown Franklin has – hands down – the best hot chocolate you will ever have the pleasure of sipping! Folks make a special trip to Triple Crown Bakery just to savor their Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate. It’s not only rich and creamy, but is visually the “sweetest” cup of cocoa you’ll ever see. The much-anticipated return of this treat will be Friday, December 5th and available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the winter months.

Tempered Fine Chocolate
This chocolate shop in Germantown is known for its unique hand made truffles that are like little bites of heaven. Their hot chocolate is no different. This decadent concoction is made of three different types of chocolate that create a denser, creamier version than your typical hot chocolate. Tempered whips up different seasonal flavors throughout the year in case you like your hot chocolate with a spicy kick or a holiday twist!

Kilwin’s
While Kilwin’s may be your go-to ice cream shop in the warmer months, this chocolate shop also serves up the most decadent drinking chocolate when the weather turns cold. They shave down their semi-sweet dark chocolate, melt it into frothy, creamy milk and serve it up hot. The perfect treat to warm you up.

Cafe Intermezzo
Cafe Intermezzo is all about slowing down and inviting an intermission, or “intermezzo,” into your day. This European coffeehouse sits in Nashville’s bustling SoBro neighborhood, which is the perfect place for patrons looking to find respite from the crowds and the cold. Their hot chocolate is the perfect pick-me-up in the winter months. All of their hot chocolate is made from Dutch chocolate and they have quite the menu to choose from! Try their Hot Chocolate Deluxe topped with shaved dark chocolate or their White Hot Chocolate made with Dutch white chocolate and vanilla.
205 Demonbreun Street, 2nd Ave S, Nashville, TN
JOS Fifteen
If you are one of those people who feel like a “venti” is still too small, come to JOS Fifteen Bakery and Cafe. This South Nashville based eatery serves up the largest coffees and hot chocolates in Nashville, which you have to see to believe. These delectable drinks are so large they’re technically meant to be shared with at least four of your favorite friends, but if you prefer to (somehow) drink it solo we won’t tell anyone. Complete with snowman artwork and rimmed with whipped cream, this insanely large hot chocolate will not disappoint!
